Dragon dance
Dragon dancing was invented by the Chinese and is a form of traditional
dance and performance in Chinese culture. Dragons symbolise power, dignity, wisdom and are believed to bring good luck to people.
Dragon dancing is held in Chinatowns world wide, and is a highlight in the celebration of Chinese New Year. The dragon is a snake shaped body with poles sticking underneath it and is used by strong men. During the dance the performers hold poles connected from underneath the dragon which raise and lower the dragon, which is made out of fabric. People holding the poles sway the dragon around so it looks like a real dragon flying.
